Writing from the Senses: Guided writing prompts based on the five senses of writing as explained in Tell It Slant: Writing and Shaping Creative Nonfiction (Miller). 

 

The Literary Narrative: Students will begin a literacy narrative after reading & discussing Literacy Behind Bars (Malcolm X).  

Teaching Essential Literary Elements: Identifying & discussing common literary elements through an exploration of picture books.
